Newton Girls Hockey

Bring a friend to try Skating and Hockey!

Newton Girls Hockey is hosting a free skating and hockey event for girls aged 4-10 on November 2nd at 5pm. Past and present Newton Youth Hockey girls are invited to bring friends and siblings on the ice for a fun hour of skating and hockey skills. The rink will be divided in half, with open skating at one end and hockey skills with sticks and pucks at the other. All players need to have skates and a helmet, and full hockey equipment is recommended for those who want to participate in hockey skills. Newton Youth Hockey board members, many of whom have girls in the program, will be present to answer questions about hockey, our programs, and how to get started.

While this is a free event, advance registration is required. Please sign up below and bring a signed copy of the waiver on the day of the event.

What: Newton Girls Hockey Skate & Play

When: Saturday, November 2 @ 5pm

Where: Daly Rink, 4 Nonantum Road, Newton

Driscoll Skating and Skills Program

NYH Members,

As in past years, Driscoll Skating & Skills is offering their power skating and skills sessions on Sunday nights at Roxbury Latin. Please see the message from Tim Driscoll below with links to registration.

Chris

__________________________________________________________

Hi All,

Driscoll Skating & Skills is excited to be offering the in-season Power Skating based Skills program Sunday evenings at Roxbury Latin Rink (West Roxbury). The program will begin on Sunday, November 17 and run fifteen consecutive Sundays.

Driscoll Skating & Skills is partnering with Town Hockey programs to offer in-season Skills training to complement what players are doing with their Town programs. The program features our Core Curriculum and we target having thirty players on the ice and a player:coach ratio of no more than 6:1. Every session will feature 35-40 minutes of Edge Work and 15-20 minutes of Stickhandling.

We will try and keep Town Hockey programs together, and ask that families from Newton Youth Hockey favor the 4:00-4:50 pm and 5:00-5:50 pm sessions. However, please sign up for the program that works best for your family.

Judging SUCCESS by the positive reviews that we have received and the fact that last year’s program was SOLD OUT!!!, I am thrilled to be able to offer the program again this year.

Note: in the event of a game or life scheduling conflict, families may flex into different hours on a given Sunday, but please let me know via email 48 hours beforehand.

Best,
Tim

REMINDER: Boys Middle School Hockey

NYH Community,

This is a quick reminder that the Middle School Hockey Program will be closing registration on October 29th . If you are still interested please sign up online here. You can also visit our website for more information. As I mentioned previously NYH would like to field three teams (6th, 7th and 8th grade) in the Valley Middle School Hockey League but this will be dependent on registration enrollment. Your help with registering ASAP will help us determine the number of teams to submit to the Valley League. All Newton teams will participate in a placement jamboree at the end of November and the first games of the regular season will likely be played during the first weekend of December.

Tryouts (if necessary) will be held in early November (date TBA). Please see the Middle School policies for more details on tryouts and team placement.

Most of the games will be held on Sunday nights but there will be some games on Fridays and Saturdays as well. Middle School Games are competitive, fun, exciting and another great opportunity to play the game we love.

Any questions feel free to reach out to me.

Learn to Play Hockey registration is open!
The Learn to Play program is an introduction to hockey designed for boys and girls aged 5 through 11. Participants follow a progression of drills designed to teach them the core hockey skills of skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting. We place a strong emphasis on having fun, using a variety of games, challenges, and scrimmages as key components of the program. Participants skate twice per week (once on Saturday and once on Sunday). One day is structured around skills progression while the other day is dedicated to scrimmages. This is a 16-week program that begins in mid-November and ends in mid-March.

Saturdays at Ryan Arena, Watertown: Grades K-2 at 9:20am and Grades 3+ at 10:20am
