Youth Job Opportunity - Timekeepers Needed!

Hello NYH Community,

We need timekeepers for this upcoming season. Games are Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings at Fessenden, and the pay is $15 per game. Minimum age is 5th grade/peewee level. Those who are interested will follow a veteran timekeeper for at least three games before working games on their own.

It’s a great way to make quick cash and watch some good youth hockey! Please contact Libby Foster at   if interested.

Call for volunteers (this means you!)

NYH Families,

I hope that your seasons are off to a great start. As you've likely noticed, there are a lot of moving parts to keeping a volunteer-run organization like NYH on track. Thanks to everybody who has lent a hand in getting equipment to coaches, ice time to teams, players on rosters, uniforms to players, and everything else that's happened in recent weeks. And of course to the coaches themselves who have committed so much of their own time to your teams over the next seven months.

Fortunately for us all, the fun is just beginning. However, we're always looking for more help. Most immediately, there are two things that would be of great help to the organization:

1. Help organize team picture day. We are in need of someone to coordinate team picture day with our vendor, communicate with teams about logistics, and be present on photo day to make sure that everything runs smoothly. This is a one-time commitment that will be done by mid-November and doesn't require a significant amount of time. However, having one person to coordinate this would go a long way towards making sure we all have pictures of smiling hockey players to put on our desks. Please email me at president@newtonyouthhockey if this might interest you.

2. Volunteer to be a team manager. If your team doesn't yet have a team manager listed on the roster, please volunteer to be that parent. The role doesn't require any hockey knowledge or skating skills - you just need to be willing to remind families where they need to be each week, take the lead on organizing any off-ice activities, and be a point person for communication so that your coach can focus their energy on practice plans and the on-ice experience. Please talk to your coach if this sounds like something you could do.

Thanks for a great first week, and good luck out there on the ice.

NYH Skills Thursdays

NYH Community,

It’s already that time of year again and hockey is back on the calendar. With our hockey schedule filling up I wanted to remind everybody that once again this year NYH will be offering a Skills Program for players participating in Mites thru Bantams as well as a Goaltender Clinic for all.

All the Skills and Goaltender clinics will be on Thursday nights starting September 5th at 5:00pm at the Fessenden Arena. The schedule is listed below, and all are encouraged to attend. It is a great opportunity to further your skills in a group setting.

This year along with Goaltender Skills goaltenders are welcome to participate in the regular skills/clinic for their designated age group. This is another great opportunity to get in extra work as well as getting guidance from the Newton High School coaches. You are welcome and encouraged to attend at the groupings designated time.

Thursday’s

5:00-5:50 Squirts

6:00-6:50 Mites/Goaltenders

7:00-7:50 Peewee’s

8:00-8:50 Bantams

Enjoy the Skills/Clinic and welcome back for another fun season.

New Initiatives For Girls In Mites & Sprites

EXTRA OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR MITE AND LTP GIRLS

New for the 2019/2020 season, NYH is excited to introduce a new girl hockey initiative at the U8 age group. In addition to playing with their co-ed Mite and Sprites/Learn to Play teams, our girls will have the opportunity to play several games as a GIRLS U8 TEAM in the Allston Brighton U8 league on Saturday mornings at Cleveland Circle. Our anticipation is that our team will participate in approximately 3-5 games starting in January. We are also exploring additional on-ice and off-ice activities for this group with the goal of growing the participation of girls in all levels of youth hockey.

A small registration fee will be required, but our intention is to keep tuition to a minimum to encourage participation. This program is open to all girls participating in Mites or Learn to Play who have some hockey experience (prior NYH or comparable learn to play programs). Registration will open later this summer. If you have any questions about the program, please contact .
